We spent our last 2 days in Athens touring more ruins and visiting 2 of the museums. We also did a little bit of shopping and walking around. The rain held off, so the weather was quite nice - cool and sunny for the most part.
The one thing that I have to note from Athens is all of the dogs on the city streets. It is so sad - most look sick and pitiful. Apparently when people don't want their dogs anymore, they just turn them out on the streets. They really are everywhere - in the ruins areas, crossing busy streets, and one was even laying at the door of our hotel tonight. They mostly sleep and nothing seems to bother them. It was just heart-breaking for a dog-lover to see! Which speaking of - I can't wait to see Delta tomorrow night!!
Sunday night we went to an Italian restaurant...one of the only ones we could find. We were craving something other than Greek. That is another thing, there don't seem to be many ethnic restaurants other than Greek here - unlike most large cities you visit who at least have a pizza place here and there.
Our last night in the city it rained. We went to a restaurant at the top of this mountain that overlooked the city and the Parthenon. The cab driver dropped us off and said it was just up the hill....Well the hill was VERY steep. Our poor mothers!! Not to mention the rain was coming down and there was lightening everywhere. All my mother could think was that we were all about to get struck! We have loved keeping things exciting on this trip!
The rain quit by the time we finished a great meal, so we were able to enjoy the views before taking the train back down the large hill (yes, there was a train that went up too, we just didn't know about it then - hahaha).
We return home tomorrow - Tuesday.
It really has been an amazing trip and wonderful experience. Many memories were made that I will always cherish!
